Man takes Hostages at Clinton office in Rochester?
A man claiming to have a bomb strapped to his chest took hostages at the Hillary Clinton campaign office in Rochester, New Hampshire. He has demanded to speak to Hillary Clinton. Hostage negotiators and police are at the scene. Hillary Clinton is not in the areasource: wikinews: article
This campaign season has brought drama to my neck of the woods. The the Clinton campaign office is located at 8 North Main Street. That is just a few buildings down from some of my favorite Rochester venues. Not to mention that Monkey lives within walking distance from there.
What I do not understand is why Rochester? Why the Clinton campaign office? Who is this guy and what is his problem with Clinton?
I hope this incident gets cleared up quickly and no one gets hurt.
This my also set some new precedents about the way campaign offices are treated. This is of particular interest to me because the Dover Obama headquarters are located right across the hall from the Medaverse office.

Open Dynamics Engine on the Wii
Ode has already been ported to the Wii once. It was used in Mario Strikers Charged. However, as of tonight, Medaverse Studios has their own working Ode running in the development environment.
W00t physics!

Happy Birthday to me.
Its my Birthday and among all my other birthdays, this one is pretty weak:
- I am still sick.
- I got a bill for $1100 to get most of my car's rear suspension replaced.
- I feel like I am being jerked around at work.
Tonight's birthday celebration will involve going down to the co-lo and replacing a router.

Hello, my name is jealousy.
Although Lourie dumped me, I still think that she is one of the few people I can talk too without any hint of self consciousness.
I get a msg. saying that she will be at the local watering hole and I should come down tonight. So I decide that I will stop by and give a "How do you do." Some things have been bugging me lately and it would be nice to have a person to vent to.
When I get there she is with her usual friends; a nice group of people that I get along with. But there is this one guy who is all over her. I do not mind being just friends, but it is something else to be invited out too see Lourie getting hit on by another guy.
Hello jealousy. I am not very familiar with you, but I can tell you are quite unpleasant.
In her defense, I do not think she was expecting him to show up. She was definitely uncomfortable looking when the two of us showed up at the same place.
This jealousy thing is quite powerful. I need to see if I can turn it in my favor.

Contracted a nasty virus
I seem to have contracted a nasty virus. It has all the normal flu symptoms; coughing, sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, etc. However this bug has the added benefit of messing with one's mental faculties. No joke, right now I feel stupider. I cannot concentrate on any one task. I can only hold a few items in my memory before a start forgetting them. Every one in a while I start feeling disoriented and needed to sleep for a hour.
That hour long nap is filled with strange dreams. I am going to keep sleeping. I hope thats will go away soon.

The day after Black Friday.
Today is the day after Black Friday. A celebration of consumerism that is growing to epic proportions. Two of my roommates work in retail and they both say that they have not seen anything like this Black Friday. People are out in force... buying stuff.
I think it is a bit shameful.

All right, having one work day at the start of the week and one at the end does not get much done.

Thanksgiving day celebrate
This Thanksgiving day went by with all the usual fanfare. It had all the trimmings of turkey, stuffing, squash, cranberry sauce, etc. These are the tastes and smells that make this November holiday.
It is great to be back with family.
Oh.. and it like those leftover turkey sandwiches.
However, I need to get back to work tomorrow so I am driving home tonight.

Out Geocaching with Jamey and Jenn.
Last year, my sister-in-law, Jenn, got into Geocaching. There are a few caches located on Mount Desert Island (not in the national park) so we went out to find a couple.
The first one brought us to a cool spot called Little Hunters Beach. It is a incredible bit of rocky cost line. I will have to come back here next summer and go exploring around the cliffs.
Next we checked out a cache near Bar Harbor on the shore path. In the dim twilight we had no luck finding this tiny microcache. I guess we will come back and check it again later.

Crash and Burn
Looks like a failed spectacularly. Laurie and I have decided that we should end any romantic pursuit and just be friends. Or at least Laurie made that decision and there is no appeals process for this type of thing.
I just accept it and move one. Before I can move on I need to go through my normal process of being depressed and feeling incapable of maintaining a simple relationship. I will be spending a lot of time moping around, listening to emo music, and sleeping.
There is only one song that accurately portrays how a feel right now: The Lonely Man Theme.
Lucky for me, I am spending most of the week at my parents place. I should be kept well distracted.

Perfectly Normal Saturday.
Today was a perfectly normal Saturday. It could have been a lot better had I not received a call from my boss that gave me a low grate headache.
Though things are looking up. I have a date with Lourie too night. We have been meeting ate places around town and exchanging text messages for a couple weeks now. Tonight is the first time I have been able to just hangout and talk for hours.

Lourds concert
Cap and I went to a Lourds concert at Milly's Tavern this evening. The show was great. Lourds Lane has a cool new look.
It was also good to catch up with old friends who also attended the concert.

tons of new video games this week.
There are a ton of new video games out this week. Cap and SB are all excited about Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Raving Rabbids is another party game with a very silly rapper. I never got into the whole RE story so I only find it slightly interesting as the first real light gun type game on the Wii.
Cap is getting into Assassin's Creed. I have not seen it being played yet so i do not know much about it.

Heat fixed
The problem with the heater was a burnt out preheater in the burner. It would cause a electric arc that would trip the circuit breaker. A guy from the company that services the furnace cam by and just pulled the bad part out. Apparently it is not required normal operation so it does not need to be replaced.
It is now a warm temp in LaTour, between 55° and 60°. It is how it will be for the rest of the winter. Now we only have to deal with the rising price of heating oil. The lowest we could find was $2.99 per gallon if we buy 125 gallons. So that is a $373.75 expense. I wonder how long this oil will last for.

No heat LaTour
It got cold in LaTour. Real cold. We decided that it was time to turn on the heat or risk pipes icing up. I turned up the thermostat and nothing happened. I investigated around the furnace and found the the circuit breaker for the furnace had tripped. I flipped it back and the breaker immediately tripped again. Something in the furnace is shorting. SB put a call into the landlord and company the services the furnace. They will be out tomorrow to take a look at the problem.
Until then we will keep a space heater running in the upstairs bathroom. That is the place where pipe freezing is likely to happen.

Partied a little too hard.
Sometimes I get out on the town and discover that I do not have enough cash to buy food and drinks. So I have to decide which activity I would rather be doing; eating or drinking. If I am not feeling terribly hungry I will forget about food and hit the bar with my buddies. However, the alcohol I do drink hits me like a ton of bricks. Worse then that, it takes forever to sober up.
Oh yeah, and the hangovers are killer. That is what I am feeling now: the punishment of my decision no to eat.

A logo that breaks the rules
Usually logos are simple and easily to remember. Geometric shapes, bright colors, a word or two in bold font. However, Unilever took a different route take a look at this:

The shapes are familiar but amorphous and difficult to identify. It is complex and not very memorable.
Perhaps Unilever does not want to be known or quickly recognizable. Interesting.

A Dream Within A Dream
A Dream Within A Dreamby Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

A quiet evening at the office.
It was to cold to sit around the house. I chose to go to the Medaverse office instead. The temperature there is always warm. I was expecting the other roommates to join me down there after a while. However they did not realize I had left and thought I was asleep in my room all evening.
I was all by myself which is not that bad. I spent some time studying the source code of ogg vorbis. It did not take me long to get it compiling in the Wii development environment. There is much more work to be done before I have ogg vorbis working though.
At the end of the night the guys where surprised to see me waking back into the house with my laptop.

Sunday's big game
I rarely watch football. However I have been hearing about the anticipation of the Patriots vs Colts game. Two undefeated teams about to sparring off; one of them is the home team. This generates excitement even in a non-sports fan like myself.
Update: The Pats won, but they had to work for it. This team is not used to trailing in points. The Colts where ahead for most of the game. That is good football.

Night out my myself
The entire day was just miserable weather. Rain, wind, and cold. I spent the day inside doing chores, exercising, watching movies and playing video games. I do not like spending an entire Saturday inside my home, so when the rain started lightening up around 10 PM, I wanted to go out.
However, I was the only one. Everyone else was content to just kick around their respective homes. So I went out on my own to see if I could find anything interesting on the streets of Dover.
I do not have much to report on as far as interesting. Made a new friend, got a phone number; the usual stuff.
I had forgotten how liberating it is to be out on your own. I do not need to worry about making sure all of my friends are accounted for and feel included. It just me, wandering wherever my whims take me.

Eating right is expensive
I have always had the suspicion that heathy foods cost more then junk food. THen I found a article called: What does 200 calories look like.
This shows that costs more money to buy food that is considered heathy then its junk food equivalent. There is something wrong with this picture. Does the cost of heathy food affect buyers purchases choices?

Late night server maintenance
There is one part of my job that I do not like. When servers need to be replaced or moved, it has to happen late at night when as few people as posable are using the services. This is usually between 12 and 3 AM. There is no fun to be had in a server room in the first hour of the morning.
